How Long Does Footage Stay On Security Cameras?

Footage typically stays on security cameras for anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, but it varies depending on the type of camera and the company’s storage policies.

Low-resolution footage is usually deleted sooner than high-resolution footage in order to make room for new footage, but some companies keep all footage indefinitely as a way to protect themselves in case of litigation.

How Far Do Security Cameras Go Back?

Depends on the security system.

But most commercial systems store images for at least 30 days and some store images for up to 90 days.

I have a home security system that lets me go back and look at the footage from any given day.

I can even set it to record only when there’s movement, so I don’t have to scroll through hours of footage.

If you’re talking about closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, most of them just keep recording until the memory fills up or the power goes out, at which point they start over from the beginning.

Some CCTV cameras are connected to DVRs (digital video recorders) that only keep X number of days before recycling the oldest footage first.

Some DVRs have the ability to keep footage indefinitely.

It really just depends on the system that’s in place.

Some are better than others, but there’s no hard and fast rule for how long security camera footage is kept.

Do Home Security Cameras Delete Footage?

There are a few things to consider when answering this question.

The most obvious is whether or not the footage is actually deleted automatically, or if it’s just stored on the camera itself until someone manually deletes it.

Another thing to consider is what type of footage is being deleted – for example, is it just footage of people walking past the house, or is it footage that captured a crime?

Some home security camera systems do have an automatic deletion feature, but it’s usually something that can be turned off or customized.

For example, you might be able to choose how long the footage is kept (e.g., 7 days, 2 weeks, 1 month) or specify which types of footage are deleted (e.g., only footage of people, only footage of vehicles).

If there’s no automatic deletion feature, then the footage will just stay on the camera until someone manually deletes it.

This is usually done through the security camera’s software or app.

As for how long footage is kept, that really varies depending on the person or company.

Some people delete footage right away, while others keep it indefinitely.

The bottom line is that home security cameras don’t typically delete footage automatically, but there are ways to delete it manually if you want to.
